Well, what a discovery we have made. We discovered it by chance and did not hesitate to buy Chalkpaint, Autentico, from Crea Decora Recicla and we got to work. Having a very high percentage of chalk makes it special because it does not have to treat the wood first. In addition to the feeling of freedom that comes from not depending on machines, sanders, complex treatments, cables and someone who knows how to use them. So we have to share this in case you dare. Now we can restore the attic furniture ourselves in no time!
We leave you 4 tips from Núria from Fontain’s Atelier
To paint the furniture:
. We sand the wood (with 120 grit sandpaper) to open the pore (as if you were removing the dust with a little care). Always in the direction of the grain.
. We clean the surface with a cloth and wash the surface with a cleaning product (omniclean or ammonia).
. Once dry, we apply 1 coat of Primer (sealer) evenly to the entire surface; We apply the paint with the brush and spread it with the roller. We avoid burrs, lumps and changes in the intensity of the roller. We let it dry for 2 hours.
. With the “sponge” sandpaper we remove the small impurities and leave the surface smooth. We clean the light polo that remains and proceed with the painting.
. We apply 2 to 3 layers of paint, we have chosen the Poetic color for this piece of furniture (which we love). Between coats, the drying time is 4 hours.
. We sand with the finest sandpaper (black), I simply caress the surface. And we apply the wax if necessary.
How we apply the transparent wax:
. We apply the wax with a brush, cloth or cotton wicks. We spread a thin homogeneous layer over the entire surface. We let the furniture penetrate and nourish, at least 15′, dry with a clean cotton cloth.
. We do it 2 to 3 more times.
And finally the colored wax:
. We apply a small amount of wax with a brush to the place that we want to darken/lighten. We remove immediately with a cotton cloth, if you want little intensity in the color or let it act for a few minutes to get a higher tone.
We know when the wax is dry when it is dry to the touch. If the surface is not slippery or feels sticky, continue polishing with a clean cotton cloth.
And here you have it… we are delighted with the result!!!
